Why You Should Never Delegate Your Marketing

by | Sep 19, 2007 | Virtual Events & Telesummits

Tina Forsyth (at left) posted a great article on her blog about the 5 things you should never delegate. While all 5 tips are excellent, I’d like to focus on just one. Out of the five, I want to emphasize that you should never delegate your marketing.

Why?

Because only you know your business and your market the best. So what should you do if you hate to market your business or your expertise? Well, there are many tools at your disposal. Here’s just a small sample.

  1. Launch a blog or podcast. Share all the brilliance that’s stuck in your head. You can blog or podcast about:
    • Answers to your clients’ most common questions
    • Tips on how to do something better
    • New tactics you discovered at a conference
    • Interviews with experts in your field
    • Response to an error or a point missed in a journalist’s article
    • It’s quite limitless
  2. Start networking online. Sites such as Ryze, Facebook and LinkedIn provide great opportunities for you to meet others and share resources. Just create a free profile, add your picture then hit the forums and start networking.
  3. Start Twitter-ing. Twitter is an online tool that allows you to tell your friends and colleagues what you’re doing at this exact moment. Don’t get it? Not a problem. Just head on over to Twitter and create a free account.

Remember, if you think about marketing in terms of sharing, giving and helping people understand how you can help them solve their biggest problem, then marketing becomes fun and painless.
