The deceased woman lived a nomad lifestyle…
According to this report, the deceased woman, Pia Farrenkopf, travelled quite a bit and had all her bills set to auto-pay from her bank account. Her mail was held at the post office as per Pia’s instructions. Neighbours said that she travelled quite a bit and one neighbour frequently cut her front lawn.
In 2008, she resigned from her job at Chrysler, so when she supposedly died, Pia was unemployed. The last year her car license was renewed was 2008.
According to one article, Pia comes from a large family. In fact, a woman claiming to be her niece created a Facebook page as a tribute to her late aunt. In one of the posts, it stated that Pia is one of nine children. So, if Pia had family, why did her death go unnoticed for so many years?
If you disappeared, would anyone miss you?
No one in her family came looking for her. In fact, her death was discovered by a contractor who went to the house to make repairs. Pia’s bank account dried up, the bank foreclosed her home, then they sent someone over to fix up the home to get it ready for re-sale. That’s when the contractor made the gruesome discovery.
So, it took the bank to uncover her and not her family members. In one article, Pia’s sister was interviewed and she stated that she was estranged from Pia. In another article, Pia’s step-father, who married her mother in 2011, sent a wedding invitation to Pia. It’s so sad that for a woman who was a “happy, healthy, energetic, intelligent woman with plenty to live for” she went missing for far too long.
That’s why the Bible says you can gain the whole world, but lose your soul…
When I read this story, immediately, I was saddened. Here is a woman who had saved up $54,000 and could use that to cover her most basic needs for six long years. In fact, she’s a great example of a good steward.
Yet, in her personal life, she was poor. Neighbours, co-workers, even family members thought of the woman from time-to-time, but no one felt compelled to visit Pia. To look in on her. To find out what’s going on.
I travel alot, but there’s no way I could go missing for that long. In my family, if one day goes by and they haven’t heard from someone, they panic (actually, my parents do). I have a church family and volunteer my time for a few ministries inside the church. I also volunteer my time outside of the church. It’s sad that Pia’s communities didn’t miss her.
Aim to be rich in all areas…
If you’re measuring your life through money alone, don’t be surprised if you’re still not happy. Instead, aim to become rich in relationships, rich in health, rich in emotions, rich in wisdom and rich in faith so that money simply becomes a bonus.
I agree this is so good. Only the poor in spirit are blessed so they can become wealthy in relationships, health, emotions and wisdom.
