For years, people have asked this very important question:
“What is the purpose of podcast.com?”
Probably one of the most lucrative domain names online, podcasters everywhere are scratching their heads wondering what’s going on with podcast.com. Is it a directory? A network? Or just a placeholder for something else?
No one knows and maybe no one really cares. You see, when I go to conferences, no one talks about podcast.com. Podcasters talk about their love/hate relationship with iTunes. They talk about Podcast Pickle and Podcast Alley. They wonder what’s going on with Yahoo Podcasts. They gossip about Zune and Google. But I never hear anyone mention podcast.com.
That’s too bad. Especially given the fact that the company that owns podcast.com just announced some deal with some company. The CEO even proudly proclaimed that:
“This agreement is a milestone for both the podcasting and the mobile industry because of Motorola’s potential to open up mobile podcasting to such a massive market.”
But this news will get very little attention. Why? Because everyone’s wondering:
“What’s up with podcast.com?”
i’ve only popped over there a few times, but let me just say, this is the furthest thing from one of the most lucrative domains online. porn.com was just sold for $9 million– THAT is one of the most lucratives domains online.
Sounds like a branding problem. Have them call Mitch Joel.
Best always,
Peter
