Time to Get Out of Hiding

by | Oct 10, 2007 | Social Media

I was on a teleconference call this afternoon that was being led by Suzanne Falter-Barns. She and I have met numerous times at various Podcamps and we’re claiming to be related since we get asked the question so many times.

I missed the majority of her call, but was able to join to hear some of her last points. One thing stuck out – you can’t build your business if you’re not willing to get out of hiding.

For some of you, this may be the one thing that is preventing you from reaching the next step. You continue to hide behind your computer in hopes that the media will call. You continue to hide in your office in hopes that clients will call. Well, I’m here to tell you that I’ve found you out and now, you’re it!

How then can you start the slow process of coming out of hiding? Here are some ideas.

  • Teleclasses / Teleworkshops – Hold a free conference call on a topic. Invite all your colleagues and friends to call in. Get a free conference bridge line from thebasementventures.com, set the time and date, then promote like crazy. And don’t forget to record so you can leverage the recording for other uses.
  • Workshops / Seminars – Develop a topic, book a room, then tell everyone you know about it. I’m holding my very first workshop in November and I’m excited. To promote, create a group in Facebook and invite everyone to attend.
  • Online MediaCreate a blog, launch a podcast, create a group and network online. Once you use these relationship building tools, the path to podcasting for profit or online networking for profit, etc. becomes so easy.
  • Online Visibility Services – Create a press release and submit it to PRWeb and other online visibility services. Use them to announce the launch of something (like your teleclass, perhaps?). Read the one we put out when Caprica was launched 18-months ago.

As you can see, there are some easy ways to come out of hiding and boost your business. Any other tips you’d like to share on how to get out of hiding?
