There’s a Writers’ Strike, But Does Anyone Care?

Although the Writers’ Guild of America is on strike, they have support on the set. For many shows, the scripts have been written. All that needs to be done is to act out the parts and then go into post-production.

However, many who supervise the actors on set don’t want to “cross the picket lines.” Instead, they are refusing to supervise non-writing services on their programs, according to Media Buyer Planner. This means that as early as the U.S. Thanksgiving, many shows will be replaced by reality TV.

Seems like I’m not the only one NOT missing out on TV. On a video blogging listserv I belong to, some were reporting not missing TV at all and wonder why anyone would be worried about the strike. In fact, the head writer of the television series Lost wrote an Op Ed piece for the New York Times over the weekend stating that if the strike lasted longer than 3-months, TV will become obsolete in no time.

So, does anyone really care about the writers being on strike? Like, really.
