How NOT to Video Podcast
[/coolplayer]
I came across this little gem on Michael Bailey’s website. He recorded a session at Podcamp Toronto with me talking about his podcasting gear. It’s 10-minutes and it clearly shows how not to video podcast. For example:
- Don’t try to focus on too many conversations at once (0:11).
- Don’t look bored or distracted.
- Don’t rub or pick your nose (1:30).
- Don’t wipe the sleep from the corner of your eyes (2:24).
- Don’t have side conversations with your co-host while someone from the audience is talking (5:50).
- Don’t look dead into the camera when someone is asking you a question (especially if the camera and the person are in two totally different places).
Any other don’ts you’d like to add after watching this fine piece of video?
Last week I produced my first video podcast… I wish now I had listened to the piece of advice you gave here about “talking heads”. The information I gave during the video podcast was good content, how ever…. it is easily consumed on a podcast and the video provides no extra value.
Now I need to focus any video podcasts on How-To information. I think that is the ticket!
Oh… another suggestion for your list… Michael wiggles and adjusts his clothing, alot. This is distracting. Must remember to be comfortable in what you are wearing and adjust before recording.
Have a great week!
Wow Leesa – I just caught myself up on what you have been doing – I wish you all the success in the future, just keep on being yourself and you will do fine, without a doubt. 😉
If it were a paying gig, I’d say we could be more critical of things like personal grooming while presenting, – but given the unconference nature of PodCamp, I’m willing to overlook many things.
PodCamp Pittsburgh 2 and Boston 2 are quickly approaching – hope to see you at one of those – I’ll have the video camera.
You’ll notice that all the “don’ts” were the things I was doing. But we did have fun. I’d certainly do it again with you. This time, I’ll be more aware of my bad habits when a camera is in my face. Like, no personal grooming while being filmed 😉
One of my many strengths is doing things the wrong way so that others may learn from my bad examples. 😉
I agree that it isn’t the way to video podcast, however, it sure was fun, eh?
