Did you get married? Why the name change?

That’s the question a friend asked on Facebook when my last name changed from Barnes to Hall.

Here’s what I posted about the name change…

My mom gave me the names Leesa, which means devoted to God, and Renee, which means rebirth.

I now add to my name the last name of the man who raised me – the only father I know – by using it professionally going forward.

I honour his love for he loved me unconditionally. I was not his, yet he treated me as if I were.

This change represents my awakening and my rebirth. I’m anxious for what’s next. I feel like dancing…
