Mistake #5 – Not Having Enough Fun

This week, I chronicle the mistakes, missteps and muck ups that cost me big in 2007. Although I listed these in an article I wrote almost three years ago, it seems that I’m still repeating some of the same mistakes.

So, I’m listing the 5 mistakes that cost me big in 2007 and what lessons I learned. I’m releasing these daily to help you help me not repeat these in 2008.

Mistake, Misstep & Muck Up #5 – Not having enough fun

The new motto of my business is fun. I’ve updated my branding to reflect a fun atmosphere. More playful colours, the use of avatars and cartoon images and using relaxed language, all to show you that social media isn’t as intimidating as it sounds.

Despite this change, I didn’t take enough time to have fun in my personal life. There was little balance between my work life and personal life and hence, I was more stressed than I needed to be.

So, I’m changing things. First, I’m going back to my regular routine of working out 4 times a week (yes, working out is fun to me).

I’ve also scheduled in my bridge time into my calendar (yes, I play bridge). And I’ve already planned a week long getaway at the beginning of March with a few girlfriends.

There are other little things that I’m doing to create more fun in my life, but the biggest breakthrough is realizing that my prosperity doesn’t come from my business. It comes from my relationship with my Creator.

Once I figured this out, I’m now feel much more relaxed and much more at peace. Business is still very important to me, but it’s now fourth on my list of the things that are important in my life behind My Creator, My Family and My Friends (in that order).

LESSON LEARNED – Have fun.

What a Grieving Person Really Needs

When a person loses a family member, many well meaning individuals will say... "If there's anything I can do, just ask." Often, the person who's experienced the loss doesn't know what to ask for. So they end up not doing so. Instead, they try to numb their grief by...

That is one thing I am faulted for all the time, my lack of “fun”. I have always taken my work seriously, no room for fun, which I see is something that I should try and change.

Thanks for the post, it has really opened my eyes and made me think about work and fun in the same sentence!

    Leesa,

What wisdom you display! Good advice. I am doing the same thing. I have decided to only take on projects that i have a passion for and can enjoy doing. I am also restructuring my business to allow me to coach and empower people and podcasting is going to be a big part of that. Thanks for showing me the way!

As a former radio talk show host, I often felt confined by the things we had to talk about which were commonly centered around the news of the day. But since embracing podcasting, i can still do what i love (which is talk radio) while only talking about the TOPICS I love! I’m excited about this year because work will be fun!

Thanks for all your insight and expertise. I am a Leesa Barnes disciple and fast becoming an avid podcaster!

p.s. I’m currently developing a family of sites that will incorporate all the informative coaching programs and podcasts i’ll be offering. I’ll keep you updated. All the sites will launch in February! thanks for your inspiration!
