How One Teleclass Resulted in $25,000 in Business

One of my friends, Jan Janzen (pictured left), who is also the big sister I never had, recently blogged about a teleclass I ran 2-years ago in which she was my invited expert. This was back when I was running Savialane and I developed monthly teleclasses for women to help them build their confidence while operating a business.

The call that Jan did was called How to Call Yourself an Expert Without Letters or Other Credentials Behind Your Name. About 10 people bought a spot to attend the live call at $19 each, but only 2 called in. I was totally embarrassed at the low numbers. Jan has over 20-years experience as an entrepreneur, she’s smart as a whip and she’s so in tune with her intuition that she can pinpoint what’s holding you back within minutes of meeting you. A true gift. And here I had only 2 people who called in.

As Jan said on her blog:

“Only two people wanted to hear my information! It would have been really easy to go there and I remember still the thought – what?!?!? – 2 people. Not a lot to be excited about.”

Despite the numbers, we went ahead with the call anyways. I recorded it, had the audio cleaned up, then prepared it for sale later on. I went on to plan my next teleclass.

Unbeknown to me, but one of the women on the call developed a relationship with Jan. Not only did she buy the CD package that Jan was selling, but also a coaching package. The relationship that Jan formed with that woman grew over the last 2-years. Jan would send business her way and vice versa. Today, that one call resulted in $25,000 being exchanged between these 2 women over the past 2-years.

Missed Opportunities

What opportunities are you missing out on because it’s “too small” or “totally beneath you”? What can you give into right now that will take you one step closer towards your dream? Jan could’ve easily told me that the audience is too small to make it worth her time. However, she went ahead with the call and is reaping the financial rewards. Don’t make the mistake of dismissing an opportunity just because it seems like a loss leader.

What a Grieving Person Really Needs

When a person loses a family member, many well meaning individuals will say... "If there's anything I can do, just ask." Often, the person who's experienced the loss doesn't know what to ask for. So they end up not doing so. Instead, they try to numb their grief by...

Very well said. I see how you could have easily “gone there” but you didn’t and the results were beyond you! Nice teaching points!

It’s amazing how some businesses don’t believe in the little people. To me, it’s like walking into a high end store, looking low end. The sales people give you barely even a second glance figuring you couldn’t afford anything anyway. What they don’t know is that a lot of well off people don’t look well off, and so you just never know who it is that is walking into your store, or reading your blog, or going to your seminars or listening to a call. One person alone could be your ticket to high sales! Like the commercial years ago about telling two people, and they tell two and so on.

I say Kudos to Jan for looking at what it was, an opportunity to get her information out, no matter how large the audience!
