Chris Penn constantly amazes me. He’s the host and producer of a Financial Aid Podcast and he did something so clever with his review of Podcasting for Profit. He applied the 7 steps that I talk about in the introduction – Assess, Plan, Launch, Grow, Profit, Measure, Optimize – to talk about how students can apply these steps to finding a career.
Here’s Chris’ summary as it applies to job hunting.
- Assess – Figure out what you want to do with your career.
- Plan – Put together an action plan so you understand which companies to target with resumes.
- Launch – Get your career search off the ground.
- Grow – Do things to market your personal brand and personal portfolio. , for example, use a blog to showcase your photography skills.
- Profit – Here you land the job and you can start looking for promotions, plus look at whether the corporate culture still makes you happy.
- Measure – Re-evaluate your career on a semi-annual basis.
- Optimize – If it’s not working, refine your approach by attending conferences.
