Even When I’m Late, I’m First – Why Punctuality Is So Important to Me

Here’s what one of my sisters said to me the other day:

Even when I’m late, I’m first.”

This is an issue for me and my sisters; we’re early for everything…

We’re not on time. We’re never late. We’re early. By 15-minutes. We were raised by a man who was a farmer and reservist in the army, so you can just imagine how our dad treated time.

I have low tolerance for tardiness. Very low. Tardiness is a deal breaker both professionally and personally. I have walked away from business deals and dates as a result. I do allow a 15-minute grace period – and then I bounce.

At the end of the day, I teach people how to treat me…

And if I allow someone to consistently treat my time poorly through chronic lateness, then it says more about how I value myself than about them.

And my dad taught me well.
