I love profiling people who take something, improve it, and become a category of one. So, when I stumbled upon the Cholofit Workout, I was gleefully pleased.
Cholofit is led by a man named Creeper…
He’s a Latino man who’s a former gangbanger and comes across as tough (hence the term, cholo). How he sets up his workouts are hilarious, and this is just one example:

As I did some digging around, I found out that Cholofit isn’t actually a real thing…
My clue was the name of the fitness leader, the absence of a website and the intense stereotypes portrayed throughout the videos. I soon uncovered that Cholofit is the creation of a Latino comedy group called Más Mejor whose purpose is to profile Latino talent.
Even though it’s a spoof, it got me thinking…
How can fitness instructors use their salty background to create a brand new workout?
Alejandro Vivar is such a person. While serving 10-years in prison for a drug charge, Alejandro (also known as Jose) dreamed of starting a gym. Upon his release, Alejandro started Prison Pump, a penitentiary inspired workout helping people get lean and muscular. The bootcamp is held in outdoor parks primarily in the city of Toronto.
How can you turn your mistakes, missteps, and muck-ups into a new income stream?
(Side note: Unfortunately, Jose was shot in the abdomen while leading a class in July 2016. Another person attending the bootcamp was injured by a stray bullet. Jose wrote about his experience in an opinion piece for the Globe & Mail.)
