Very interesting survey I stumbled upon. HRmarketer.com surveyed Human Resources (HR) managers to ask what influences their decision to buy HR products from suppliers and vendors. They found that:
- 42.9% will ask a peer and 26.1% will use Google or another search engine when searching for suppliers and vendors. Not surprisingly, only 1% of those surveyed use ads or printed material they received from a vendor or supplier.
- More than half of those who buy from suppliers of HR products and services had visited a blog (52%) and 43% have listened to a podcast.
The study recommended that if you’re a supplier or vendor, a blog and podcast are a must have. In particular, the study said:
Blogs and podcasts are yet further opportunities to take your message direct to your buyer, bypassing the traditional media where placements are more difficult and expensive to secure.
Having a popular HR blog and doing regular podcasts increase your online visibility and reach. This is important considering how many HR buyers use the Internet to search for HR and vendor information.
But remember, whatever content you put out there (webcast, white paper, blog, podcast) be sure to keep it non-promotional, educational and informative.

Hi Leesa – good points. Only 1% of the corprate bunch/HR managers using ads or printed materials – wow! Makes you wonder how well traditional media are transitioning over to the new media? They’ve got to be hurting while they figure out how to influence the buzz factor. Leesa your contact email doesn’t work and I’d like to send you an email.
Thanks
