Overspending – spending more money than what you earn – is a surefire way to stay in debt. In her book Money Girl’s Smart Move to Grow Rich, Laura D. Adams lists 7 reasons why we overspend our money:

  1. To boost our self-image and self-esteem
  2. To feel accepted or part of the crowd
  3. To satisfy a shopping addiction
  4. An entitlement mentality (if they have it, so can I)
  5. To win the affections of others
  6. The desire for instant gratification
  7. Lack of personal responsibility
