Twitter is a fast way to tell people what you’re doing at this very moment. However, you may be missing out on an easy way to build quality relationships on this microblogging tool. In this article, I’ll share with you the 3 fuss free ways to power up your relationships on Twitter.
- Fuss Free Tip #1 – Reply to Your Replies. When you login to Twitter, you see a timeline of all those you are following. These are updates that are directed to no one in particular. However, if you click on the Replies tab, you’ll see a list of replies that are directed to you. To reply back, just put @ in front of the person’s username or click on the arrow that appears on the right side of their message. Doing this create a casual conversation between you and the person you’re replying to.
- Fuss Free Tip #2 – Send a Direct Message. Replying to someone appears on the public timeline, however, if you want to send someone a private message, use the Direct Message feature. In Twitter, this appears on the right hand side of your homepage. Just click on the link and type up your message. NOTE – You can only send a Direct Message to someone if they are following you. If they are not, then you won’t be able to send them a direct message.
- Fuss Free Step #3 – Find Others to Follow. By following someone, you’ll get updates from them in your Twitter timeline. Some people have developed rigid rules as to who they will and won’t follow. Not me. Instead, I follow people who seem interested or followed me first. To find out when someone new is following you, turn on the notifications in your profile. Login to Twitter and go to Settings > Notices, then put a checkmark beside “Email when someone starts following me.”
Building relationships on Twitter can be done in a fuss free way if you reply to people, send them direct messages and follow them.

First, let me say you’ve done a wonderful job with this blog; love the look and feel of it all.
Second, I have to admit that I don’t accept just anyone on Twitter; rather, I don’t subscribe back to just everyone. If they haven’t put up an image, I don’t follow. Also, I take a look at the types of comments they make, as well as the frequency. And finally, I look to see what kind of ratio there is between how many people they’re following versus how many are following them. Yeah, I know some of the big names have thousands more followers than themselves, but at least I know who they are.
I’ve met some nice people on Twitter, including Mr. Guy Kawasaki, and I’ll be getting a free copy of his new book; can’t beat that! lol
