Why Your Non-Downloadable Telesummit Recordings

Back in July 2011, I wrote an post about the state of non-secure recordings that I found on many telesummit webpages. The problem is not going away, so I decided to bring attention to this problem using a video tutorial.

Play the video below to see the backdoor (yet simple) way anyone can download your non-downloadable telesummit recordings. This is truly an eye opener.

Next Steps?

I’m surprised that no one else we know has done this video. There is a good free wordpress plugin that I use to secure my audio files in a separate directory. The plugin is called simply “audio player” and it encodes the file location in a separate file, so they can’t even see the encoding for the file destination. For people who are a bit more tech savvy, even your link in the video could be decoded, and then still find the destination file. Granted, most folks aren’t this savvy, but it is possible, if they know the encryption type.

The other obviously tedious way to “steal” the recordings is to use a software that will record the audio on your computer. Then, all you have to do is press play and walk away while the audio is recorded.

In truth, there’s no 100% secure way to keep your audios from being snatched by someone who really wants them and really doesn’t want to pay for them. The best approach, however, is always to make it as worth their while as possible to get them to say yes to buying the upgrades in the first place.

    Great video, Lee!

Securing your web assets is just as important as locking your front door. Yes, a determined thief can always break your windows and steal from you, but when you lock your doors, you make it harder and force that would-be thief to find an easier target.

Ooooh great advice. I’ve always known this and use AA as well but I have a feeling most people aren’t aware of how easy this is to do. It only takes a few seconds, too!

Holy Moly, thank you Leesa for sharing this! And now I’m especially happy that I didn’t offer free replays for Engage and Persuade.

But people can record things from their phones on live calls, or record from Skype so we’re never totally out of the woods. That crossed my mind during my own event.

Nevertheless, I choose to focus on the fabulous people who value what I do, who pay me for my strategies, and leave glowing testimonials!! They’ll attract 10 more clients from their raving-fan-ness and in the long run that negates the pirates.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I can hear those pirates getting slapped as I write this!
